Insurance Regulatory Practice
GRB advises insurance brokers, insurance agents, public adjusters, and general consultants in all aspects of New York’s Insurance Laws and Regulations. GRB’s insurance regulatory practice handles licensing and relicensing applications before the New York State Insurance Department and represents insurance licensees in regulatory matters and investigations, including hearings, and formal meetings, and in responding to complaints filed with the New York State Insurance Department, in entering Stipulations with the New York State Insurance Department, and in appearing before the New York State Automobile Plan and the Workers Compensation Board. GRB also represents insurance brokerages and insurance agencies in the purchase or sale of insurance businesses in the New York area and drafts and negotiates non-competes and restrictive covenants for insurance producers and/or employers.
GRB also analyzes insurance coverage issues and frequently defends insurance brokerages and agencies in litigations in New York State and Federal Courts in cases involving allegations of failure to procure requested coverage, as well as defending claims of misrepresentation and fraud. The founding partners are listed among Professional Insurance Agents Circle of Consultants, and are members of the Council of Insurance Brokers of Greater New York and the Association of Professional Insurance Women. GRB is a frequent contributor to The Insurance Advocate, a leading insurance industry publication, and also writes for Professional Insurance Agents magazine. The firm stays abreast of current New York insurance regulatory issues affecting insurance agents and brokers.
In the aftermath of 9/11, the firm’s partners worked on Proskauer Rose’s trial team representing the policyholder, Silverstein Properties, in the property damage and business interruption insurance litigation arising out of the collapse of the Twin Towers. The partners were also involved in a major pollution-exclusion dispute resulting from environmental contamination at numerous paper mills nationwide.
